CPG NEWS - BRP, Ski doo recalls announcedPosted May 3/2010
In cooperation with the Consumer Product Safety Commission, BRP is recalling the following snowmobiles: the 2009-2010 SKANDIC SWT V-800 and the 2010 GSX 1200, GTX 1200, MXZ 1200 and Renegade 1200. Consumers should stop using the units unless otherwise instructed, the government says. About 1,500 units are affected. According to the CPSC, the drive pulley bolts can break due to oil contamination during the assembly process. This can cause debris to come off the vehicle and act as projectiles, posing a “laceration hazard” to riders and bystanders.BRP has received three reports of projectiles flying off the snowmobiles, including one report of a minor foot injury. The units, made in Canada and Finland, were sold by dealers nationwide from July 2008 through February 2010 for between $8,000 and $9,000. The government is instructing owners to contact a Ski-Doo dealer for a free repair. All known owners of the recalled units have been directly notified by mail.
