BMW Motorrad says that worldwide in May, its motorcycle retail unit sales continued to outpace last year’s sales by a wide margin. The company says that sales in May climbed 19.3 percent to reach a total of 12,139 units, despite the continuing strong decline in the global motorcycle market in the segment over 500cc.

Through May, BMW Motorrad reports sales growth of 20.9 percent to 45,431 units. “The lasting boom at BMW Motorrad can be attributed to its broad range of attractive products,” the company says. With 3,705 (up 33.9 percent) deliveries in May, the R 1200 GS/GS Adventure with the new Boxer engine remains the best-selling product in the BMW motorcycle portfolio. Alongside the other R Series Boxer motorcycles, the F and K Series models are also in strong demand, BMW says.

The S 1000 RR continues to sell well through May — 5,236 units of BMW’s first supersport motorcycle had been delivered to customers worldwide. In May alone, 1,345 units were delivered.
