Riders who want the comfort and protection of a touring machine plus the performance, agility and styling of a Kawasaki NINJA® sportbike will find just what they're looking for in the Kawasaki Concours. With plenty of ground clearance and broad, usable power plus hard luggage, full fairing, well-padded seat and upright riding position, the Concours presents a great balance between sport and touring.

A 997cc liquid-cooled four-cylinder engine provides sporty power for the Concours. Dual overhead cams actuate four valves per cylinder. Fuel is fed to the compact combustion chamber through a bank of 32mm Keihin constant-velocity carburetors. The compact combustion chamber allows for an increased compression ratio without detonation on today's pump gasoline.

A gear-driven engine counterbalancer helps reduce engine vibration for rider comfort and increased electrical component life. Top gear in the six-speed transmission keeps the engine at a relaxed 4,000 rpm at highway speeds which adds to rider comfort on long-distance Interstate rides. Power reaches the five-spoke rear wheel through a quiet and reliable low maintenance shaft drive.

The Concours handles twisty backroads just as easily as it can cruise the Interstate. Its diamond frame design is simple yet rigid and uses the engine as a stressed member to eliminate weight and ease engine maintenance.

Kawasaki's Bottom-Link UNI-TRAK® rear suspension system keeps the rear wheel firmly planted on all kinds of roads. Using lightweight aluminum components, the UNI-TRAK linkage applies progressively stiffer damping and spring forces on the single rear shock as the suspension compresses for a smoother, more controlled ride. A remote adjuster makes it easy to tune rebound damping to any of four settings to match riding style, load and road conditions. Front suspension is handled by a 41mm fork with adjustable preload.

Dual 300mm front disc brakes with the Kawasaki Balanced Actuation Caliper (BAC) system provide excellent stopping power while increasing brake pad life. The BAC system puts a smaller piston on the leading edge of the brake pad where less pressure is needed since this area tends to "dig in" when the brake is applied.

Rider comfort is a high priority on the Concours. The triple density foam seat is deeply contoured to please both the rider and passenger. A full fairing creates an aerodynamic envelope for two even when in a relaxed, upright riding position. Air vent ducts built into the fairing help cool the rider. Two lockable bins are located on either side of the fairing for added convenience, while the easy-to-read instrumentation similar to that found on the Kawasaki NINJA ZX-11 sportbike flagship and includes a digital clock as well as dual trip meters.

The Concours is equipped for the long haul. Its 7.5-gallon fuel tank provides exceptional touring range and detachable hard luggage lets riders pack for extended trips. Special panels are provided to fit to the Concours' sides when the saddlebags are removed to retain the smooth flow of the bodywork.
